It was a misty morning when I photographed Simon White and his off-grid life for BathLife Magazine. There was no fabulous sunset or late summer rays, but instead, with a head-cold and not feeling myself, I went early in the morning to meet him at the river's edge. However, there a surprising calm in the Autumnal fog - with the steam rising from the water mingling with the smoke from the boats' chimneys. It had a magical, peaceful feel and I totally got what attracted Simon to this carefree life. As we sat drinking our herbal teas and watched other boats drift by, I felt like I was on holiday, forgetting about the stresses and strains of daily toil.
I love this portrait of him and was pleased that he seemed to like it too
